Addressing the gathering, the Collector emphasized that sanitation workers are frontline warriors whose contributions often go unnoticed but are fundamental to the district’s development and citizens’ well-being. Certificates of appreciation and mementos were presented to the workers as a mark of respect and encouragement.
The event reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to dignity of labour and to strengthening sanitation services across Rayagada. Akshaya Kumar Khemundu, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour in this occasion.
In a symbolic show of solidarity, the dignitaries personally served food to the sanitation workers during the “Bada Khana” community meal. Addressing the gathering, the Collector described the contribution of sanitation workers in keeping the city clean and beautiful as unparalleled and lauded the municipality for organising the programme.
More than 400 sanitation workers underwent comprehensive medical check-ups at a special health camp organised during the event. Each worker was provided with a personalised health booklet to ensure systematic medical record-keeping and facilitate improved healthcare access in the future.
The Collector urged all stakeholders to intensify efforts to improve the municipality’s ranking at the national level in Swachh Survekshan 2026. He also announced that legacy waste in the city would soon be processed through bio-mining and that a modern waste management centre equipped with advanced mechanised systems would be established at Ward No. 03.
Municipal Chairperson P. Mahesh Patnaik, the Vice-Chairperson, councillors, sanitation experts, Swachh Sathis, Swachh Supervisors and municipal officials were present on the occasion. The Executive Officer of the municipality coordinated the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
