Govt’s proaction to contain avian flu in Delang

Bhubaneswar

With confirmation of bird flu in Delang, Govt authorities in animal husbandry, supported by relevant departments, have commenced the culling of infected birds, along with those located within one-kilometer radius of the affected farms. The culled birds are being disposed of in deep pits treated with lime. Additionally, the eggs produced by these infected birds will be destroyed and buried as well.

Officials aim to complete the culling process promptly. The government has established a compensation payment for each adult bird that is culled.

To mitigate the spread of avian influenza, authorities have begun implementing biosecurity measures extending up to ten kilometers from the infected poultry farms. This includes targeted action for birds located within a one-kilometer range.Birds within one-kilometer radius are being eliminated, and authorities are monitoring bird deaths within a nine-kilometer range closely. If the mortality rate rises by one percent, they will deem the birds as infected and begin their removal.

Moreover, disinfectants are being applied to the infected poultry farms. To prevent the virus from spreading, vehicle movement between farms is being limited, unless the vehicles have been disinfected.

This Friday, following instructions from the government, Director of Animal Husbandry Shri Vijay Amruta Kulange, IAS, convened a meeting with the district administration and team in Puri Delang, providing necessary directives to the officials present for heightened surveillance.

Odisha government is taking every measure to contain this avian influenza with utmost care.
