Mohanlal Sukhadia University Udaipur’s first Women Vice Chancellor, Prof Sunita Mishra after 62 years of its existence

The eventful and glorious two years of the University was graced by Honble President of India Smt Draupadi Murmu at its convocation in 2024. Bilota Girls College saw the light of the day and over two hundred girls have already taken admission. A bus was provided through CSR with the personal effort of the Vice Chancellor .The two years was a watershed in empowerment of women and their emancipation in the university. On one hand, transparency in administration and adherence to Govt rules of Rajasthan was hallmark of the university & on the other hand, the career growth of the staff was accomplished in a big way. To mention a few, promotion of 141 faculty members was ordered through Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) long after of attaining eligibility .

Prof Sunita Mishra believes that the world is full of wisdom, opportunities and challenges that can ignite & inspire the new generation to come.
The glorious and historical University of Mewar region Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur had excelled in NAAC evaluation, soon after Prof Mishra took over charge as Vice Chancellor. She strived hard with whole team of the university as one family and not only achieved A grade rating but a good jump in NIRF ranking and the university was awarded as the best performing university in 2024 to receive the award from Honble Governor of Rajasthan .

The implementation of NEP-2020 in the university faculties and 207 affiliated colleges under Mohanlal Sukhadia University, adoption of semester system were daunting tasks when she took over . Prof Mishra tried to make MLSU
an institution that has striven for all-around quality in all aspects of higher education. She promoted sports and games in a big way and the students of the university brought several laurels. She introduced transparency through on line admission of students, on line salary to staff and pension benefits to retired employees, on line scholarship system to students, Ph D admission through Common on line entrance CUET, on line procurement through GeM and on line E tendering, on line Health Management through RGHS etc .

Knowledge is power.
Delivering quality education by grooming young human resources with ethical and moral values simultaneously boosting the leadership qualities, research culture, and innovative skills is her motto. She brought a series of student centric reforms. The students were earlier required to pay for a reevaluation , she made it free on line . The University was accredited by NAAC and accorded with “A” Grade through her leadership and team effort. She led from the front and faced the problems righteously and conforming the govt rules and university statute in the greater interest of the University . MLSU is truly a multifaceted university having science,arts, Humanities, Management, law, and Commerce, Engineering, Architecture,Education Pharmacy, Yoga, Sports, Hotel Management, and Allied Health Sciences, etc. This gives us an opportunity for our students to obtain knowledge across multiple domains, she told. During her two years tenure, the university has witnessed two Convocations imparting with The President of India as Chief Guest in 2024 and Governor of Rajasthan in 2023 convocation.The implementation of NEP 2020 and the inauguration of the North Campus- Billota of the university dedicated to Girl Child of the tribal belt, establishment of Gandhian Samriti Kendra
in Central Library,West Zone Handball Competition and many more events were organised. The university had an all religion meet with illustrious saints and also opened a centre for Jainology. She strongly believes to deliver a new strategy to determine the vision, mission, values and goals that will guide the work of the university for a decade in consultation with the staff and student communities. The university curriculum is so designed and modified as to mould the students as design thinkers to provide innovative solutions to various problems of the world and inculcate a nationalistic feeling . The high-intensity education driven by technology will help them surmount any challenge they are likely to face in the modern and competitive world. The university aims to create not mere job seekers but ambitious “Job
Creators”, who will be the architects of tomorrow’s world. Several student-centric schemes, the use of information technology in creating hybrid learning, increased automation for e-governance, and social inclusion addressing concerns of the changing times and paved the way for excellence through holistic development of students and establishment of the sustainable and innovative ecosystem for teaching and research.

In the coming days, her persistent effort for the development of the university will focus on key priorities based on educational innovation and quality and the development of a new model for global engagement that will build on the University’s international partnerships to accelerate and extend the University’s action on environmental sustainability, to support and nurture the careers and well-being of university staff, embed equality, diversity, and inclusion across all aspects of the university. Also continue to ensure financial sustainability, and leverage opportunities for investment in staff, students, teaching and research by diversifying income streams that will align with its vision of providing unparalleled service, innovation, and effectiveness to enable MLSU’s excellence. These priorities will deliver new opportunities and address improvements to enhance the sustainability efforts. When learning becomes purposeful, creativity blossoms. Students of Mohanlal Sukhadia University are proving this.

She belongs to Puri of Odisha state. She is daughter of Sachidananda Mishra, Retd IAS officer & Late Shantilata Mishra. She married to SN Sabat, Retd IPS son of Raghunatha Sabata of Paninala street ,Jeypore town from Koraput dist of Odisha. She completed graduation in Ramadevi Women’s University (earlier RD Women’s College), Post Graduation in Saila Bala Women’s College Cuttack & Ph D in Sambalpur University. She had her research in Food and Nutrition and could facilitate three patents on food preservation in last three years. She was even aearded by Nobel Laureate in 2008 in Virginia USA.

She aims for women empowerment and proper provision of nutrition to all children by providing nutritional education to mothers.

With this background, she proved her competence in establishing Mohanlal Sukhadia University, a Centre of Excellence.
